Speaking of Murder

Louis Bertain owns a garage in Paris. The garage is a front; the real business is robbery. By day everyone looks like an ordinary tradesman, and the work only turns over at night, when the red light is on. Then the arrangement breaks: one of the gang becomes convinced that Louis's younger brother is informing to the police. Once suspicion is in the room nobody trusts anybody, and the matter becomes a matter between brothers. Gilles Grangier directs, with Jean Gabin as Louis and Lino Ventura, Marcel Bozzuffi and Annie Girardot alongside him. It is the French crime picture in its classic form: men who say little, narrow streets, and danger that comes from inside.
