Sun Valley Serenade

Phil Corey's band arrives at a ski resort in Idaho. Ted, the band's pianist, has sponsored a refugee coming out of Europe because of the war; instead of a child, what turns up is a young Norwegian woman, Karen, and he falls for her. When the featured soloist walks out of the show, Karen offers to stage a number on the ice and the programme is saved. H. Bruce Humberstone's film brings together the figure skater Sonja Henie and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Its real place in film history is the song: Chattanooga Choo Choo was performed here for the first time and became the first recording in history to be awarded a gold record. In the film's version of the number, the Nicholas Brothers and Dorothy Dandridge dance, and that routine is why people still watch the film.
