What Happy Go Lovely Is About

B.G. Bruno heads a greeting card company in Scotland. He is rich and unmarried. He means well but is heavy going and formal to a fault. At the same time an American troupe arrives in Edinburgh. They want to put on a musical in the city but cannot find backers. Bruno meets the performers in the company. Through a misunderstanding they take him for a newspaper reporter. Bruno does not correct them. Both the production and his own life take an unexpected turn from there. The account is built on the misunderstanding growing as it goes. The film is a musical, and songs take up plenty of room in it. David Niven and Vera-Ellen take the leads in H. Bruce Humberstone’s British film of 1951.
