Wonder Man

Buzzy Bellew is a loud, self-assured nightclub entertainer. He witnesses a murder committed by the gangster Ten Grand Jackson. Jackson's men kill him and dump the body in the lake at Prospect Park. But Buzzy comes back as a ghost and summons his twin: Edwin Dingle, a shy bookworm who all but lives in the library. Buzzy moves into Edwin's body. From there it is one man behaving like two people: reading an encyclopaedia one moment and singing on stage the next. H. Bruce Humberstone directs, with Danny Kaye playing both twins. Ninety-eight minutes, with Virginia Mayo and Vera-Ellen in the cast. It won the Oscar for special effects; putting two Danny Kayes in the same frame counted as advanced work at the time.
