What Sunny: Our Hearts Beat Together Is About
Nami, a housewife in her forties, runs into Serika, a friend from high school, in a hospital. Serika does not have long, and what she wants before she goes is to see the group from school together one more time. So Nami starts tracking down women she has not seen in decades. Hitoshi One's 2018 film is adapted from the 2011 Korean picture and moves the story into Japan in the nineties, into kogal culture and the pop music of the period. The narrative shuttles between now and then. Its strength is not nostalgia but the distance between what those girls expected to become and what they became.
