What New Dimension! Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Battle of Supernatural Powers ~Flying Sushi~ Is About
Hitoshi Ône's 2023 anime is the first computer-animated film in the Crayon Shin-chan series. Two lights from space descend on the earth; one gives the kindergartner Shinnosuke the power to move things with his mind, the other gives a similar power to a man named Hiriya, who wants to use it to destroy the world. The film continues the humour of the series while its visual language has changed completely; the characters are modelled to preserve the line of the cartoon, and that transition required years of preparation. The story mocks the superhero pattern in the language of children. It became the highest earning film in the franchise. Who it's for: Shin-chan viewers and anyone interested in animation technique. Who it's not for: anyone attached to the series' hand-drawn look; this film looks entirely different.
