Sunny Side Up

Molly and Bee are two young working girls living in a cheap room above a grocery store in New York. Jack Cromwell, the man Molly admires from afar, lives in a mansion on Long Island. He is markedly less happy, though, since his fiancée Jane will not send her other admirers away. Driving off, Jack ends up in the middle of a block party, and there he meets Molly. The film puts class difference in the way as an obstacle but tells it lightly, moving along on its songs. It is a musical from 1929, the years of the change to sound. Bringing the two ends of the city into one story shapes how the account is built. Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell take the leads in David Butler’s hundred and twenty one minute American film, completed in 1929.
