Tea for Two

The wealthy heiress Nanette Carter makes a bet with her uncle: if she can say no to everything she is asked for forty-eight hours, she wins twenty-five thousand dollars. She intends to put the money into a Broadway show featuring her boyfriend's songs, with herself in the lead. What she does not know is that her uncle's money went in the crash and the bet was empty from the start. David Butler's film is a rearrangement of the famous stage musical No, No, Nanette. Doris Day sings, Gene Nelson dances, and Eve Arden and Billy De Wolfe can turn any scene with a single word. Setting the story against the Depression years, it converts an economic disaster into an engine for comedy. The song it takes its name from is a standard out of that same show.
