Tap Roots

The film is set at the start of the Civil War. There is a county in Mississippi. The county decides not to enter the war. For that it chooses to secede from the state. Two men protect it against the Confederacy. One is a man who stands against slavery. The other is a Native American. The man’s daughter is inside the account too. Her fiancé is an officer in the Confederate army. But that man elopes with her sister. At the same time a powerful newspaper owner approaches her. At first she gives him no encouragement. Then her former fiancé sets out to take the county, and she turns to him for help. Van Heflin and Susan Hayward take the leads in George Marshall’s American film of 1948.
