What Texas Is About
George Marshall's 1941 western was built by Columbia as a follow-up, though not a sequel, to the previous year's Arizona. Two Virginians fresh out of the Civil War are riding toward a new life in Texas when they witness a stagecoach holdup and decide to rob the robbers. A posse forces them to split up, and by the time they meet again years later one of them stands on each side of the law. What the film is actually about is the slow estrangement of two men who used to think of themselves as brothers. Both William Holden and Glenn Ford were still early in their careers here, with Claire Trevor as the third corner of the triangle.
