Teasing Master Takagi-san

Rikiya Imaizumi's 2024 Japanese film carries a series known in manga and anime into a later period. Takagi is grown and returns to her old school as a trainee teacher; there she finds Nishikata, the classmate she used to tease, working as a PE teacher. The idea is whether the old dynamic will continue. All the humour of the series came from a game between two children; doing the same thing as adults carries a different meaning and the narrative notices this. It was made as live action with Mei Nagano in the lead. The tone is calm and there is little event; the narrative offers no large development and expects knowledge of the series. Imaizumi is known for relationship films. Who it's for: viewers who know the series and like quiet Japanese romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers new to it; the film begins without explaining the characters' history.
