What The Crime Is Mine Is About
In nineteen-thirties Paris an out-of-work actress becomes the suspect in the killing of a well-known producer. With her friend, a lawyer, she decides to confess; a good defence in court will make them both famous. The film builds the murder as a career opportunity and keeps it entirely on comic ground. The narrative aims at a professional world closed to women: these two can only succeed by claiming to have killed a man. Francois Ozon directed, with Isabelle Huppert and Fabrice Luchini in the cast. It is adapted from a stage play. Who it's for: those who like French comedy in a classical shape and period design. Who it's not for: viewers wanting realism; the film runs on stage logic throughout.
