The Dreamed Ones

Two poets stand at the centre of the documentary. One is Ingeborg Bachmann. The other is Paul Celan. Both wrote in German after the war. Bachmann was Austrian. Celan was a Jew born in Czernowitz. There was a long relationship between them. It was carried on through letters. The correspondence covers the years from 1948 to 1967. The film rests on those letters. A young woman and a young man read them aloud. The reading takes place in the Funkhaus studio in Vienna. Between the readings the two of them talk in their own words. Anja Plaschg and Laurence Rupp appear in the eighty nine minute documentary, an Austrian production Ruth Beckermann finished in 2016.
