What The End of America Is About
The documentary sets out the argument of the writer Naomi Wolf’s book of the same name: that the security measures taken in America after the eleventh of September follow the same order of steps seen in countries that have historically moved from democracy to authoritarian rule. It takes the ten points of the book one by one, among them the use of paramilitary groups, secret prisons, the suspension of law and the singling out of journalists. Former intelligence officers, lawyers and reporters also speak in the film. These parallels are disputed and have been found overdrawn by many historians, and a viewer needs to watch knowing that. The seventy three minute American documentary by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg was completed in 2008.
