Knuckleball!

A knuckleball is thrown with almost no spin, which leaves it drifting wherever the air takes it. Nobody fully controls one, and neither the batter nor the catcher knows where it is going. In the 2011 season there were exactly two pitchers throwing it in the major leagues: Tim Wakefield of the Red Sox and R. A. Dickey of the Mets. The documentary follows both of them through that season. What Ricki Stern's film is really about is being an outsider. A knuckleballer is treated with suspicion by every club, his career can end at any moment, and nobody understands the problem except the handful of men who threw it before him. Phil Niekro and Charlie Hough come in, and what emerges is a small, closed guild.
