What The House by the Sea Is About
A house on a small bay near Marseille. The old father has had a stroke, cannot speak and is living his last days; his three children gather in the house after years apart. Angèle became an actress in Paris and had sworn never to come back; Joseph arrives with a woman much younger than him; Armand still runs the family's failing restaurant. They talk about how much of their father's idea of solidarity they have left. Then children who arrived by boat turn up on the shore, and the question stops being theoretical. Guédiguian's film is calm, sad and openly political.
