What The Journey Is About
Martin is a young man living in Ushuaia, at the southern end of the world. He decides to go looking for the father who left the family years ago, and sets off north on his bicycle. The man was last said to have been seen in Brazil. The road runs from one end of Latin America to the other. Fernando Solanas's film is not realist; what is met along the way is exaggerated and symbolic. A capital city underwater, a president selling off his own country, towns crushed under debt. Solanas makes a criticism on a continental scale, and makes it without giving up humour. It runs over two hours and twenty minutes.
