What The Little House Is About

Taki never married and had no children. After her death, Takeshi, a young relative, finds the closely written notebooks she left behind. In them is her youth: in Tokyo in the thirties, working as a maid and nanny for the Hirai family in a little house with a red gabled roof. The house is warm, the lady of it, Tokiko, is young and beautiful, and her husband manages a toy company. The war comes from a distance. And there is something between Tokiko and a young man from her husband's firm; Taki saw it, and that day made a decision. Yoji Yamada directs, adapting Kyoko Nakajima's novel. Two hours and sixteen minutes. Haru Kuroki, who plays the young Taki, was named best actress at Berlin in 2014.
