The Nickel Ride

Cooper works on the middle rungs of a criminal organisation. His job is running a set of warehouses in Los Angeles where stolen goods are kept. He carries all the keys, and because of that he knows what everyone is doing. When a real estate deal goes wrong the people around him grow uneasy. What Cooper knows is no longer a guarantee; it is counted as a threat. The circle he moves in slowly closes around him. The film builds its tension out of suspicion and waiting rather than confrontation. A worn out man losing the little he holds sits at the centre of the story. Jason Miller, Linda Haynes and John Hillerman appear in Robert Mulligan’s ninety nine minute American film, completed in 1975.
