What The Red Kimona Is About
A young woman is taken to New Orleans by the man she believed she would marry and is pushed into prostitution. Years later, seeing him in Los Angeles buying a wedding ring for another woman, she shoots him; the court acquits her and she tries to build her life again. The film started from a real case and used the woman’s real name on screen. She had long since made another life for herself, and she sued the film; the ruling of the California court is counted as the beginning of the road toward the recognition of a right to privacy in America. The seventy seven minute silent film, produced by Dorothy Davenport, was directed by Walter Lang; Priscilla Bonner has the lead and the production was completed in 1925.
