What The Second Wedding Night Is About

The Second World War is over. A woman who has lost her husband is left with nothing at all. She moves in with her brother-in-law Giordano, bringing her good-for-nothing son. Giordano lives alone in the countryside and is not of sound mind; he spends his days collecting and destroying the unexploded shells scattered across the fields. He also carries a feeling for her that he formed years ago and never lost. With the house full, his life acquires a purpose. Pupi Avati directs, with Antonio Albanese as Giordano and the opera singer Katia Ricciarelli as the woman. It is a quiet and painful film set in postwar Italy.
