What The Last Minute Is About
Walter Ferrari is a football coach sacked by his club president, Di Carlo, on the eve of the playoffs. The moment of dismissal opens the man's whole life to view: how temporary the job is, how a signature erases authority, and how little a lifetime on the touchline weighs in a club's books. Pupi Avati's 1987 film is announced as a comedy but the tone is sad throughout. Ugo Tognazzi plays the coach and the whole weight of the picture gathers in his face. Italian football at the end of the eighties is not background here but the texture of the story.
