The Story of Boys and Girls

In a farmhouse a large family cooks mountains of food for the next day’s engagement dinner. The couple to be engaged are Silvia and Angelo, who has come from the city. As the preparations go on the household’s own accounts open up, and the old matter between the parents is spoken of again. Angelo’s family comes by train from Bologna, and his mother thinks her son is marrying beneath him. The day long dinner is loud; affection and impatience appear at the same table. The film tells the difference of class not as a great conflict but through small details at the table. The distance between the country and the city is the real subject. Lucrezia Lante della Rovere and Alessandro Haber appear in Pupi Avati’s eighty nine minute Italian film, completed in 1989.
