What Thirty-three Is About
In the provincial town of Upper Yamki a dentist finds a thirty third tooth in the mouth of his patient, Ivan Sergeyevich Travkin. Exhausted with pain, the man is taken to Moscow, where matters get away from everyone: Travkin is declared a national treasure, given ceremonial receptions, paraded on television and even prepared for a flight to Mars. Georgiy Daneliya's 1965 comedy cuts at bureaucracy, junk science and the manufacture of celebrity at the same time. It did not last long in cinemas, pulled two weeks after release, reportedly over a scene an ideology chief disliked. Evgeni Leonov leads.
