What Nastya Is About
Nastya is an ordinary shop assistant, a quiet girl nobody notices. Her ill mother keeps asking why she has no young man. One day she helps an old woman in the street, and in return the woman grants her two wishes. Nastya makes the first one without thinking: she wants to be beautiful. The wish comes true and her life changes at once, but the attention she starts getting is not what she expected. Georgiy Daneliya sets this fairy tale inside Russia at the start of the nineties: empty shelves, no money, a city where everyone is trying to hold on to some kind of work. The comedy is sweet with a sadness underneath it. Yevgeny Leonov and Aleksandr Abdulov are also in the cast.
