Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea

Jindřich Polák's 1977 Czechoslovak film uses time travel as material for comedy. A former Nazi who has reached the nineties on pills that delay ageing plans to return to 1944 and hand Hitler a hydrogen bomb so he can win the war. When the pilot who was to carry it out dies on the morning of the trip, his twin brother takes his place; the man knows nothing of what is going on and, instead of changing history, wrecks it entirely. From there the film builds a chain of misunderstandings and produces its humour by breaking the rules of time travel constantly. In the background is a time travel industry that has become tourism, and those details are its most enjoyable feature. The science fiction design was done on a small budget and has become a style of its own. Who it's for: viewers who like Eastern European science fiction comedy. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a coherent plot; the film refuses one on purpose.
