What Trailer Park Boys: Don't Legalize It Is About
Ricky, Julian and Bubbles get out of jail. Canada is debating legalising marijuana, which for Ricky is a catastrophe: his entire livelihood depends on it being illegal. He goes to Ottawa to try to stop it. Julian is chasing a business of his own, and Bubbles learns something about his family. Mike Clattenburg directs. Robb Wells plays Ricky, John Paul Tremblay plays Julian, Mike Smith plays Bubbles. It is the third film from the series. Trailer Park Boys was a Canadian mock documentary programme, and after it ended on television the actors bought the rights and continued producing it themselves. This film comes out of that transition. Its premise rests on a real argument. Canada legalised cannabis in 2018; this arrived four years earlier, in the middle of the process, and asks who legalisation actually serves from the other end: for a small dealer, legal means bankrupt. The method is unchanged. The camera is always there, the characters talk to it, and nobody corrects their behaviour. Who it is for: viewers who follow the series and like Canadian black comedy. Who it is not for: do not start here. Nobody is introduced and most of the humour rests on a decade of accumulation.
