Trailer Park Boys

A trailer park in Nova Scotia. Julian and Ricky get out of jail and work through a series of bad ideas for making money. With them is Bubbles, in his glasses, looking after the cats. A documentary crew follows them and the camera records everything. Mike Clattenburg directs. John Paul Tremblay plays Julian, Robb Wells plays Ricky, Mike Smith plays Bubbles. This film precedes the series. The television show that started in 2001 and ran for years came out of it, and the characters, the mock documentary form and the location were established here. The most visible difference is colour: the film is black and white and the series was not. The budget was very small. Clattenburg and the cast made it with their own means, in an actual trailer park, with a crew that was not professional. The result is crude, and the crudeness is the source of the tone. The method is already settled: the camera is always there, nobody hides that they are performing, the characters talk directly to it, and none of them corrects their behaviour. It became a cult in Canada and was rediscovered retrospectively after the series succeeded. Who it is for: viewers who like the Trailer Park Boys world and low budget independent comedy. Who it is not for: the technical quality is genuinely poor and the humour is coarse, and without the series nobody is explained.
