Why Does Herr R. Run Amok?

Known in German as Warum läuft Herr R. Amok?, Why Does Herr R. Run Amok? is officially credited to both Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Michael Fengler as co-directors, but according to Fengler's own account in the 2008 documentary "Gegenschuss," Fassbinder was not actually involved in the writing or directing and visited the set at most twice. The directing was effectively Fengler's alone, and the dialogue was almost entirely improvised by the cast, unusual for a credited "Fassbinder film." Who it's for: anyone curious about the real creative story behind a credited "Fassbinder film," a New German Cinema classic built on improvised dialogue. Who it's not for: viewers wanting to take the credited names at face value, since the real creative process differs from the official credit.
