What Why We Fight: The Battle of China Is About
The sixth film in the series the American army commissioned to explain to its soldiers why they were fighting takes up the Japanese invasion of China. It sketches the geography and history of the country, then covers the invasion, the massacre at Nanjing, the migration of millions into the interior, the opening of the Burma Road and the part played by American volunteer pilots. Although it is built like a documentary, it was openly made as propaganda; it was later established that it showed the allied Chinese government as stronger and more united than it was, and that some passages use footage from other wars. The sixty five minute film by Frank Capra and Anatole Litvak was completed in 1944.
