What A Pool Without Water Is About
A man who punches tickets on the Tokyo underground lives a life in which nothing changes between his home and his work. One night, after stepping in when he sees a woman being attacked in the street, he obtains chloroform and begins using it to enter women’s flats and render them unconscious; in those flats he rapes them and then returns to his own orderly life. The film does not justify what he does; it sets his ordinariness beside the crime and describes how both can stand in the same man. Kōji Wakamatsu’s hundred and three minute Japanese film started from a real case in Japan. Yuya Uchida takes the lead; it opened on 23 January 1982.
