What Almost King Is About
The film tells a fairy tale about how the one who has a heart and is not stingy will not fail in the end. The best known hero of Czech fairy tales, beside the brave prince and the beautiful princess, is without doubt Honza; he is not at all stupid but on the contrary brave, clever, handsome and cheerful. The film sets him on the road once more and builds a story in which he comes very close to being king. The account uses the moulds of Czechoslovak fairy tale cinema of the seventies: bright costume, song and a teasing tone. It states its moral at the outset and then plays with it. Jiri Korn plays the lead in Borivoj Zeman’s eighty six minute Czechoslovak film, completed in 1977.
