Biggie & Tupac

Biggie & Tupac, directed by Nick Broomfield in his signature self-insertion documentary style, investigates the mystery behind the unsolved murders of rappers Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. One of the film's most notable scenes is Broomfield's prison interview with Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight. Building on a theory from a former LAPD detective, the film points toward Knight's responsibility and a police cover-up; but these claims are the film's own thesis, not facts proven in court, and the murders remain officially unsolved. The film premiered at Sundance on January 11, 2002. The film holds a Metascore of 63. Who it's for: anyone curious about a documentary in which the director inserts himself into the investigation of two legendary rappers' unsolved murders, built on a contested theory. Who it's not for: viewers looking for definitive, court validated conclusions, since the film presents its own speculative thesis and the murders remain officially unsolved.
