What Tracking Down Maggie Is About
Nick Broomfield wants an interview. The person he wants it from is Margaret Thatcher. She is in the United States at the time, promoting her first volume of memoirs. He follows her there. Every door closes in front of him. The appointment never comes. So the film turns into a game of cat and mouse. He never gets anywhere near the woman behind the Iron Lady name. Failing to get there becomes the comedy of the film. Another subject opens up along the way. The film goes into the accusations made about her son Mark. He was said to have used his mother’s connections in arms deals in Saudi Arabia. Broomfield follows that trail as far as he can. The book she was promoting was The Downing Street Years. The eighty seven minute documentary is a British production Broomfield finished in 1994.
