Blessed Event

Alvin Roberts works in the advertising department of a newspaper. The paper is in trouble. When the society columnist goes on holiday he covers the column. He turns it into something else entirely within days. It fills up with innuendo, gossip and personal attacks. He runs hard crime items in between. What he likes most is bringing hidden things out. He prints birth announcements for newly married couples with the dates. The column takes off and the man rises fast. He makes enemies as he goes. He falls out with a singer. He has no hesitation about using the power of the press. Then a gangster turns up in front of him. The film tells all this before the Hays rules tightened. Lee Tracy and Mary Brian appear in the eighty minute film, an American production Roy Del Ruth finished in 1932.
