What Broadway Melody of 1936 Is About
The MGM musical that made Eleanor Powell a star overnight. Irene Foster is waiting for Robert Gordon, her childhood sweetheart and now a Broadway producer, to notice her and her talent. He is too busy trading blows with a gossip columnist to look up, but his sharp tongued secretary sees the situation clearly and the two women take matters into their own hands. The plot is thin and the numbers are the real business of the film. Buddy Ebsen dances with his sister Vilma, and Jack Benny and Robert Taylor are in the cast.
