What Cell Phone Is About

Yan Shouyi hosts a well-known television programme. His mobile phone sits at the centre of his life: the lies he tells his wife, the messages to his mistress, the work calls, all of it lives in that small device. One day his wife picks the phone up and everything opens. From there the film turns to the phone itself, an object that keeps records, reports locations and does not forget. Lying is not as easy as it used to be, because now every word leaves a trace. Feng Xiaogang directs; a hundred and seven minutes. Ge You plays Yan Shouyi, with Zhang Guoli and Fan Bingbing in the cast. It did large business in China. The television presenter Cui Yongyuan said the character had been written from him and made him look bad, and objected to the film for years afterwards.
