What The Dream Factory Is About
Four friends in Beijing set up an unusual business: for a modest fee they will act out a customer's fantasy. Whatever somebody wants to be, they build the scene and play the parts. As the clients get stranger the job stops being a comic premise and starts showing what people actually need. Feng Xiaogang wrote it from a book by Wang Shuo. It is remembered as the film that launched the Chinese New Year comedy as a category, it went far past what anyone expected at the box office, and it made Feng's career. Ge You leads.
