What Assembly Is About
1948, the Chinese civil war. Captain Gu Zidi's company has clear orders: hold the position until the bugle sounds the retreat. The bugle never sounds. The company is destroyed to the last man and Gu is the only survivor. When the war ends his real fight begins: getting his dead registered as fallen rather than missing. He goes door to door for years, nobody listens, and the records do not exist. Feng gives the first half to a brutal battle and the second to bureaucracy.
