Han Dong drives a minibus in Beijing and has been working for a travel company for months. The owner will not pay him; every time there is another excuse. Han Dong has to cover his sister's hospital costs and has no patience left for waiting. In the end a way occurs to him: he kidnaps the man's girlfriend. But it does not go as planned, and he and the woman soon come to an understanding. Feng Xiaogang is the director who established what is called the New Year comedy in China; the films he made one after another at the end of the nineties created a new box-office habit in the country. This is one of them. Ge You has the lead and the two worked together for years. The mould is comedy but its subject is unpaid labour: the small man cannot get what he is owed by legal means and turns to an illegal one, and the film does not put him in the wrong. Ninety-five minutes.
