What Choice of Arms Is About
Noël Durieux has left the criminal world, breeds horses and has built a quiet life with his wife. When two men on the run from prison turn up at his door, that life comes apart in a night. Mickey, one of them, is young, angry and believes in no rules at all; the world Durieux came from had an order with rules in it. What the film is really about is those two generations colliding. Alain Corneau directed; Yves Montand, Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve lead. From the hard, slow end of French crime cinema: it accumulates tension rather than action.
