Nocturne Indien

A man travels to India to look for an old friend who had been living in Bombay. The letter that called him came from the woman his friend was living with; the friend has disappeared. The search runs from Bombay to Madras and on to Goa. At every stop he talks to someone else, and every conversation makes him a little more like the person he is looking for; by the end the difference between the one searching and the one being searched for begins to dissolve. The film was adapted from a novel by Antonio Tabucchi and builds the account on the journey itself rather than on plot. Jean-Hugues Anglade plays the lead in Alain Corneau’s hundred and ten minute film, completed in 1989.
