What City Hunter: .357 Magnum Is About
Ryo Saeba is Tokyo's fixer for hire: a good shot with loose morals. This time the job is protecting Nina, a young pianist in town for a charity concert. Music is not what is on Ryo's mind, and Nina spends most of her time mocking him. Then the bodies start dropping: a foreign dignitary is assassinated, agents go looking for a missing microchip, and Nina and her grandfather are abducted. Kenji Kodama's film is adapted from Tsukasa Hojo's City Hunter manga and is one of the series' early features. The way it keeps action and crude comedy inside the same scene is a good sample of the anime register of the 1980s.
