What Getting to Know the Big Wide World Is About
On the building site of a new factory, in the mud and the noise, there are three workers: Lyuba, Misha and Kolya. The talk never stops, and love appears in that setting too. Kolya is a man whose hardness pushes people away; Misha lost a leg in an accident at work three years earlier and has to learn to get past his shame. The film turns a classic triangle into a poem about where love comes from and why it cannot be explained. Kira Muratova chose the building site as a place where culture has not yet been made. Nina Ruslanova appears in this, her first film in colour; the seventy nine minute Soviet production was completed in 1978.
