In Rome in the twenties young girls are killed and the newspapers demand that the culprit be caught at once. Because the fascist government wants to appear as the guarantor of order, the pressure grows and the police are forced to produce a name. The man chosen is a photographer; the press declares him a monster, his name goes into the headlines and his life never returns to what it was. He is cleared afterwards, but the name stuck to him remains. The film is not about the killings but about how a culprit is manufactured and about the part the press played in it. Nino Manfredi plays the lead in Damiano Damiani’s hundred and fourteen minute Italian film, completed in 1972.
