Sergio, a historian and a practised womaniser, is drawn to a dark old mansion by Consuelo, a wealthy widow who offers him work cataloguing the erotic manuscripts her late husband left behind. He is reluctant until he meets Aura, Consuelo's daughter, and then he stays. His obsession with Aura turns into an affair that darkens fast, and eventually he understands that she is not who she appears to be. Damiano Damiani's 1966 Italian gothic is adapted from Carlos Fuentes's novella Aura. Richard Johnson, Rosanna Schiaffino and Gian Maria Volonté play it, and Luis Bacalov wrote the score.
