What I Am Afraid Is About
In the years when political violence in Italy was at its height, Graziano, a policeman who has already survived one attempt on his life, is assigned to guard an upright judge, and the two become friends. Seeing what the judge is risking, he tries and fails to talk him out of it. As the links between the upper reaches of the police and the state and the violence itself come clear, his fear grows, which is where the title comes from: a frightened policeman was a new thing for the cinema of that moment. Damiano Damiani took on what was called the strategy of tension directly. Gian Maria Volonté plays a tired, solitary man without ever inflating him.
