What Golden Horns Is About
A deer with golden antlers lives in the forest and protects whoever is weakest; in the village nearby the widow Yevdokiya keeps house with her twin daughters, her son and her old father. The girls see robbers hunting the deer, are then lured in among the trees by forest spirits, and Baba Yaga turns them into fawns. When Yevdokiya sets out to find them, the Sun, the Moon and the Wind come to her aid. Drawn from Russian folk tales, this was the last film Aleksandr Rou made. He tells it not as an entertainment for children but as a long journey built on a mother’s endurance.
