I Come

Caco is the head of a powerful Roma family with a name in Andalusia. He has lost his daughter and has not been able to pull himself together since; he spends his days at her grave and drinking. He has given all his love to his disabled nephew Diego. The trouble is that Diego's father, Caco's brother, has killed a man from the Caravaca family and gone into hiding. The Caravacas come to settle accounts, and Caco will not give his brother up. Tony Gatlif's film runs on music more than on plot; the flamenco sequences are not ornaments scattered in between but the telling itself. The singers and dancers are mostly real artists and the scenes were shot without cutting. Antonio Canales plays Caco; he is a well known flamenco dancer himself. Gatlif has made films about Roma life for years and this is one of them. Ninety minutes. The blood-feud mould is familiar, but the film does not look for its solution in violence.
