What Swing Is About
Ten year old Max spends his summer holiday with his grandmother in a district of Strasbourg. He hears Manouche music in a local bar, falls for it, and goes looking for a guitar among the Romani community, where he meets a girl they call Swing. She brings him into a community living in caravans and run down public housing. Over several days Max watches the music, the knowledge of plants and the ordinary life around him, and admires Miraldo, the guitarist he first heard in the bar. Tchavolo Schmitt, one of the great guitarists of Manouche jazz, plays him. Music here is the film itself.
